@ERAUMBasketball Uses Big First Half En Route to 88-74 Win Against Tarzans

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team shot a blistering 67 percent from the field in the first half on Friday afternoon to propel the Eagles (4-0) to an 88-74 win over the visiting Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Tarzans (1-4) at the ICI Center. ERAU led by as many as 28 with eight minutes left in the second half before the Tarzans chipped away at the lead to account for the closer final.

Reed Ridder scored 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting, including four three-pointers, while assisting on five baskets, blocking a shot and recording four steals while Ognjen Miljkovic scored 19 points as ERAU remained perfect in 2015-16.

"We were very committed to creating our type of tempo tonight," Head Coach Steve Ridder said. "We wanted to be able to play very fast, and our defense allowed us to do that tonight."

Daniel Kiesling missed the first three of the game nine seconds into Friday's contest, but the Eagles didn't miss many in the first half, connecting on 10 from deep, including one from Kiesling at the 16:33 mark that put the Eagles up for good at 11-10.

Kiesling made another three on the next Eagle possession before Dalton Barnes made a jumper and Ridder made back-to-back buckets to push the ERAU lead to 20-11.

Miljkovic had a 5-0 run with a layup and three around the 12-minute mark and when Ridder got a feed from Barnes off a steal, he raced into the frontcourt and made it 29-18 in favor of the home team.

Ridder and Dillon Graham connected on a pair from deep to balloon the Eagle lead to 35-20 with just under nine minutes left, and the hosts finished the half on a 14-10 run to take a 24-point cushion into the lockerroom.

Ridder scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half while Miljkovic contributed 15 points.

"The thing that's enjoyable to watch about this team is how good we can be offensively," Ridder said. "We truly have five guys on the floor at any time can knock down perimeter shots. We shot 15 threes in the first half and made 10!"

The beginning of the second half saw the Eagles continue to hold their lead, getting it to 65-41 when Graham made a layup at the 13:46 mark. A few minutes later ERAU went up by 26 when Barnes made a jumper off a Bradley Mapes assist before a Barnes layup off a Gonzalez pass made it 76-48 at the 8:14 mark.

Francisco Lopez made a shot from long range to start UPRM's comeback attempt, but the Tarzans were never really able to threaten the lead the Eagles had built as ERAU won their 23rd straight in the ICI Center.

Joining Ridder and Miljkovic in double-figures was Kiesling with 14, and the senior was just one rebound short of a double-double, finished with nine. Graham scored nine, as did Gonzalez off the bench.

ERAU outrebounded UPRM, 37-25 and used the fastbreak to its advantage, outscoring the Tarzans, 28-16 in that category.

"Tonight was a great game for us to check it off our list," Ridder said. "But our guys our extremely ready to travel to Tampa and take on the Spartans."

The Eagles travel to Tampa to take on the Spartans on Monday, Nov. 30 for a 7 p.m. tip against their third Sunshine State Conference opponent.
