Men's Basketball Triumphs Over Tarzans, 104-66

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team picked up its fourth win in a row to close out the month of November on Saturday in the ICI Center, as the Eagles (6-2, 2-0 SSC) downed Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (0-7), 104-66. All 13 Eagles who entered the game came away with points, including six with double-digits in the ledger.

ERAU enjoyed a day of variety, with 23 second-chance points, 58 points from the bench, 42 points in the paint and 58 rebounds.

Michael McCalister led the way for ERAU offensively with his 13 points, adding eight boards and three assists on the well-rounded afternoon. Yassin Hussein grabbed six boards and added 10 points, while Milan Skoric nailed two threes and a buzzer-beating dunk at the end of the first for his 10 points. Off the bench, Jack Dillard reeled in a career-best 13 points (4-of-8 from 3-point range), adding three rebounds and two assists. Clarens Pierre had a monster game off the bench, registering a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Jared Berry also had 10 points off the bench for the Blue & Gold, once again adding valuable production for the second team.

ERAU never trailed on Saturday against PR-M, as the Eagles started out the first shooting 52-percent from the floor to the Tarzans' 25-percent. With 23 total second-chance points in the contest, Embry-Riddle capitalized on Mayaguez's mistakes early, as well as some of their own.

In total, the Eagles powered home eight dunks, including three put-backs from Pierre, a breakaway from Nickson, Skoric's buzzer-beater off a steal, and a nifty putback from Jack Klinger (8 points, 6 rebounds). McCalister got the dunk-fest going early, after Skoric opened the game with a quick three, and the Eagles were off and running. ERAU jumped out to a quick 16-5 lead, before Mayaguez connected on a three and a couple free throws to bring things back to eight with 13 minutes left in the first, but ERAU's bench went electric and enjoyed an 18-0 run into the waning minutes of the first. Logan Lewis (4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists), Dawson Barr (6 points, 2 rebounds), Pierre, Klinger and Dillard all enjoyed some excellent buckets in the run, and ERAU enjoyed a 56-23 lead at the break.

A Jerry Bracey II (4 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists) got things going to open the second half for ERAU, putting the home side up a comfortable 35 points. Mayaguez cut the lead to 25 twice, but ERAU's suffocating defense prevented any runs from the Tarzans, while continually making the extra pass for a bucket on the offensive end.

In the waning minutes of the game, Matej Akrap made his ERAU and collegiate debut with a big-time three on his first attempt with the Blue & Gold. Theo Stangas also nailed home a three toward the end as well, as the Eagles ran away with the 104-66 victory.

ERAU returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, Dec. 4, when rival Florida Tech visits the ICI Center for another conference showdown.
