Men’s Basketball Charges Late but Falls to No. 2/3 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A 38-17 late-game run that included seven-straight made shots gave the Embry-Riddle men's basketball team hope of upsetting No. 2/3 Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night, but the Eagles came up short in a 91-78 road loss. The Eagles did find success on the boards, outrebounding the Sharks 46-36 led by 11 from Michael McCalister, who also chipped in a team-high 20 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
  • Embry-Riddle started strong as the Eagles made their first three shots, two of which came from Dru Nickson, to take an 8-6 lead just over two minutes in.
  • A lengthy five-minute scoring drought by the Blue and Gold pushed NSU ahead 28-9 at the midway point of the half.
  • An 8-4 streak by ERAU closed the gap to 15 (32-17) with 7:12 left to go.
  • McCalister captured the final four points for ERAU with a jumper and two free throws in the final 70 seconds.
  • A last-second jumper by the Sharks ended the half 49-28 in favor of the home team.

Second Half
  • Nova Southeastern opened the period with four-straight made shots as ERAU fell behind 60-30.
  • The Eagles responded with a 14-4 spurt to get within 20 (64-44) after five different members of the Blue and Gold converted on shots, with 3-pointers from McCalister and Milan Skoric.
  • Embry-Riddle continued to eat into the deficit with seven consecutive tallies to make the score 68-53 (8:15).
  • With 7:31 left, ERAU nailed seven straight shots, five of which were layups, to inch closer at 79-68.
  • Yassin Hussein drove to the basket for a layup to get the Eagles within single digits (79-70) with 3:21 left, but ERAU could not get any closer.
