No. 18 Softball Struggles in Series Finale Against Florida Tech

| By:
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle softball team struggled to piece an inning together offensively and dropped Friday's contest 8-1, as well as the series, to Florida Tech (31-18, 14-13 Sunshine State Conference).

Despite recording nine hits and putting runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings, the Eagles (22-11, 14-7 SSC) left 10 runners on base and only managed to score one run on a solo shot by ReAnne Drayton in the third.

A messy first inning put Embry-Riddle behind early on. The Panthers scored four times on three hits, two walks, an error and a wild pitch. After the Eagles left the bases loaded In the next frame, Florida Tech used two RBI singles to pick up another pair of runs.

Down 6-0, Drayton provided some fire power in the third with a solo home run to center, her third of the season. Unfortunately, that's all the run support Embry-Riddle would receive.

A two-RBI double made the deficit 8-1 in the fifth inning, which would be too large for the Eagles to overcome.

Eight different batters recorded a hit for the Blue and Gold, led by Lauren Latoria's 2-for-3 outing.

Mallory Kinahan (7-6) started in the circle but was yanked in the second inning after allowing four runs, none of which were earned, on two hits and two walks over 1.1 innings pitched. Kelsi Collins finished out the final 4.2 innings on the rubber. She gave up four runs, all earned, from five hits and two walks. Both pitchers recorded one strikeout.

Up next is Embry-Riddle's final non-conference series of the season. The Eagles host Flagler on Tuesday, April 19 for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
