Softball Splits Spring Break Doubleheader With Panthers

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball had a big response in game two of the doubleheader versus Adelphi, winning 8-0 after dropping the opener by a score of 12-2. After a rocky start, the Eagles did not allow a run for the final six innings of the doubleheader.

Emma Wood had a fantastic day at the plate, going 4-for-5 between the two games. As a team, ERAU tallied eight runs on 11 hits in Game 2, with Shelby Morse coming just three outs away from a no-hitter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • In the first inning, Embry-Riddle scored one run after Leah Oberkehr singled and stole second, followed by Wood's single advancing Oberkehr to third. 
  • Delaney Morgan's sacrifice bunt allowed Oberkehr to score, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.
2nd Inning
  • The second inning saw a surge from the Panthers, scoring six runs to jump ahead 8-1. 
  • Sanzone's grand slam was a key play in the inning. 
3rd Inning
  • During the third inning, the Panthers added three more runs to their total, bringing the score to 11-1.
  • Kodi Alvord doubled, but the team was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

  • In the fourth inning, Raissa Bianco hit a solo home run for Embry-Riddle, contributing to a total of two runs for the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
2nd Inning
  • In the second inning, the Eagles capitalized on a fielding error by the Panthers, allowing Serenity Jaenichen to score. 
3rd Inning
  • During the third inning, Embry-Riddle's offense gained momentum. 
  • Oberkehr and Wood both singled and executed a double steal, setting the stage for Mallory Kinahan's RBI groundout, which increased the lead to 2-0. 
  • Addison Orr followed with an RBI single, and Isabelle Bonn tripled to bring Orr home, expanding the lead to 4-0 by the end of the inning.
5th Inning
  • Morse was masterful in the circle, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth inning.
  • The fifth inning showcased Embry-Riddle's offensive prowess as the Eagles extended their lead. 
  • Delaney Morgan's walk and stolen base set up Kinahan, who reached on a fielding error, advancing Morgan to third. 
  • Orr's RBI single scored Morgan, followed by Alvord's pinch-hit RBI single. 
  • Bianco's RBI double and Wood's RBI single rounded out the scoring, as the home team added four more runs, bringing the final score to 8-0.
