Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle baseball team was unable to secure a series win against Florida Tech and the lost both games of the doubleheader on Saturday in Melbourne. The Eagles had nine hits but could only produce three runs in an 8-3 loss in game one, and managed just two runs in a 12-2 loss in the second game.
 
Bailey Russell took the loss in the first game, allowing four runs on five hits with two strikeouts, while Brock Chance suffered the loss in the second.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
• Walks hurt the Eagles in the second inning as four free passes and a hit led to two Panther runs.
• A three-run homerun did most of the damage for the Panthers in the fourth as they added four runs in the inning to extend their lead to 6-0.
• The top of the sixth saw the Eagles get two runs back.
Max Kops (3-for-5) singled to center, got to second on an error and scored on a ground out for the this Eagles' first run of the game.
• The Panther starting pitcher struggled to find the zone in the sixth and the Eagles capitalized as three walks and a hit batter led to a second ERAU run.
• The Panthers added a run apiece in the seventh and eighth innings.
AJ Marinello (1-for-4) greeted the Panthers' new pitcher with a solo shot in the ninth.
• The Eagles worked a walk and had two hits but were unable to send any more runs across the plate.
 
Game 2
• Florida Tech took a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back outscoring the Eagles 10-0 in the first four innings.
• The Eagles' only runs came in the seventh inning.
• After reaching on a throwing error, Dylan Bruno took second on a wild pitch.
• After Brad Salamone worked a walk, Collin Mastromauro (1-for-2) hit his first triple of the season to score both runners.
• The Panthers scored a run each in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles and the Panthers close out the series on Saturday with doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.
